Students and parents were invited to attend a special achievement presentation following the completion of an unique project sponsored by Her Majesty's Passport Office as part of their Certificate of Personal Effectiveness study.
16 students in year 10 studying the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness took part in a 6 week programme that involved working with business mentors from the Civil Service. Students were given the unique opportunity to learn and practise essential skills that employers look for. During this project, a team from Her Majesty's Passport Office delivered interactive lessons that provided an insight into working life and how businesses work. Organiser, Bev Lindsey, Partnership and Development Manager, "I have been amazed by the leap in student's confidence and their positive approach to each lesson over the course of the project. During the presentation event students showed off their new found skills by presenting, introducing and performing to the audience, something I believe they would not have attempted willingly before the project." Project leader Her Majesty's Passport Office, Ciran Dickinson, "I would like to thank all involved at Thomas Deacon Academy for making us feel welcome and fully participating in the project. The students really impressed the mentoring team, working to a high standard and making us laugh along the way. We will miss working with the students and wish them all the best for the future."
Overall, this has provided students with a great foundation to help them prepare for their work experience placement which will take place in the summer term. Our thanks go to Ciran Dickinson (project leader for HM Passport Office) and her team for all of their support and hard-work during the project.
